Located at the heart of Wanchai in the newly developed Lei Tong Street area across from a garbage collection site and a nearby drug rehab clinic with many junkies lurking around, lies Le Pain Quotidien. As I arrive I see a line up... must be a good thing right? Well everything from that point onwards was disappointment. 1) Staff has terrible service. I ordered a scone, had to ask for spreads to go with the scones then once it arrives I had to ask for butter and when my drink arrived I had to
1) Staff has terrible service. I ordered a scone, had to ask for spreads to go with the scones then once it arrives I had to ask for butter and when my drink arrived I had to ask for a straw. If your scones were nice and tasty standalone I wouldn't blame you for not bringing me anything to go with the scones, but they were dry and terrible and tasteless. You would think with a few members of their staff being French that they would know a thing or two about restaurant service, but unfortunately their manners and services lack that of a Chinese Cha Chan Tang.
As for the food...
Quinao Detox Salad
Ingredients were mediocre and the pesto dressing that came with the salad was not flavorful enough. You end up with a boring bland salad.
Avocado Toast
With such a name you would think the slice of bread would come toasted. Well no, but Le Pain Quotidien may argue this is how they do toast. You can't go wrong with avocado spread on toast with some sprinkle of chia seeds but for $88 it was not wow. This also came lack of seasoning.
Coffee
I was incredibly surprised that for a restaurant that claims itself to be somehow French, my coffee came lukewarm. It was also very awkward that the coffee mug came without handles. Well I guess if you are gonna serve lukewarm coffee that it doesn't really matter if you have a handle on the mug.
To wrap things up, I ate had a breakfast for slightly less than $400hkd which I could of had at coffee academics for 1/3 the price and less the attitude from the pretentious French staff. Le Pain Quotidien has to realize that many Hong Kongers have been to Paris and in Paris even a regular boulangerie have higher standards than your overpriced restaurant. Save your money and go elsewhere. You are paying for this rubbish food you deserve more than this bad service and quality.
