having heard that the new Hard Rock opened up round a week ago, I just had to get a taste of the place and see how it meshed in with lkf. situated at the top of the slope with its huge new sign, it stands out from the neighboring bars. at first i was a bit skeptical about having hard rock there, as it make the whole area even more touristy (dislike) and replaced the favourite Hong Kong Brew House (more dislike). additionally, HR was more of a family orientated place...nevertheless, the whole

having heard that the new Hard Rock opened up round a week ago, I just had to get a taste of the place and see how it meshed in with lkf.
situated at the top of the slope with its huge new sign, it stands out from the neighboring bars. at first i was a bit skeptical about having hard rock there, as it make the whole area even more touristy (dislike) and replaced the favourite Hong Kong Brew House (more dislike). additionally, HR was more of a family orientated place...

nevertheless, the whole dining and music experience was great and worth the wait. so i do hope that this central HR works out and doesn't close down.

seating: called them to try getting a reservation, but they wouldn't take any. perhaps because its just opened??
the place is actually pretty small and not that many tables, and the hard rock souvenir shop is tiny. overall i think the whole place is definitly smaller than the old one in TST(and misses out the huge attrative guitar that makes it so Hard Rock), but none the less, the arrangment of the seating near the stage and standing area at the bar, allows pretty much everyone to enjoy a great view of the band playing.
the stage itself beats the one in tst or other bars with live bands by far. there are also TV screens placed next to it playing music videos, so it really gave the whole place a boost as if i was in some concert, but with space to eat good large portioned food at the same time hahaha

We sat right at the front, it was literally having front row experience without the need to shove around people!! AMAZING

MUSIC:

the bands were great and fun. when we got seated at 9pm, the first band playing did more classics from the 60s-early 90s. So great for fans of Beatles etc. also heard the occasional John Mayer. the music was great to sing along too. having said that, it is loud (but not overtly), still this would not be the place for chatting with friends. plus you'd find yourself more wanting to sing with the music rather than talking anyway

when it got towards 10pm, naturally the lights in the dining area got darker and the stage had more color lighting effects. the second band opened with more top40 latest hits. which is guess is more popular with the younger generation. nevertheless, whether you know the song or not, the bands perform it in a way that you can easily go along with the chorus or sth.

food:
they had alot of interesting drink combinations, but whether they have a wide range of alch, i'm not too picky. the food in general, was good. but nth to be raved about.
(2 people)
Drinks (~$85): Roadie (refreshing liquid, though not big fan of the fake cherry taste) , Fruitapalooza (slushy like coconut creme- nice at first then got sickly towards the end)
Food: ~$90 Nachos (props for using corn tortilla chips rather than doritos), Chicken Linguine (your average pasta)
Dessert: (~$77) Apple thing (quite tasty and different from the desserts offered in cpk etc; very sweet so good to share with ppl; however though it was bigger than your average dessert portion, for the price and the type of restaurant, i feel like it should've been bigger); they also offered "bite" sized desserts for $27, but i reckon it would be quite small. though i still can't wait to try the appetizing sounding choco-peanut butter combo next time
Price: ~$550 pricey for stomach capacity of 2 college-aged females.

service:
just the fact that they didn't take reservations. otherwise, very friendly service.

though it averaged to over $200 per head, which is more than what i normally pay for at jaspas, hk brew, al's diner etc ,
i do think it was worth it. despite the slight wait, and the restaurant NOT taking reservations, being seated comfortably so close to the band was great. For me, it was more the music and feel rather than the food. still with the combination of my fav live music, decor of records, and munchy american food. BONUS
