Went to boyfriend's for dinner and well ... his kitchen is a mess. As there is no more dining out after 6 PM, we decided to get take away. He mentioned some place new in the mall nearby and we decided to give it a try.Located in the Temple Mall, 亚金南洋茶室 (English name: Akam Laksa) serves Malaysan/Singaporean cuisine. Here is something I had never seen before. A temperature check device that you just press your wrist against it. You don't even need staff to hold the thermometer at your forehead, minimizing staff and customer contact. Fasciniating!
Like many other places, this place offers a 23% discount for take away.
Menu is in English and Chinese. As we did take away, there was no 10% service charge. The menu had a variety of ites and it appeared they all had photos you know what you are getting yourself into.
Boyfried had the Vietnamese Lemongrass Pork Chop Laksa ($58). It was served in sturdy plastic containers. The laksa soup was served separately from the noodles. The soup was rich and a bit too spicy for me. But boyfriend felt it was just the right amount of heat. The tofu puffs soaked up the soup very well.
The lemon grass pork chops were super juicy and fragrant. Portion size was a lot as well. Noodles were still chewy despite the 10 minute walk home.
I had the Stir Fried Diced Beef Tenderloin with Nanyang Paste and Nasi Lemak ($72) as I didn't want anything spicy. The beef was very tender. I loved the sauce as it was very savory and coated everything well. There was a lot of rice as well and had a hint of coconut.
We shared a dessert of Singaporean Burbur Cha Cha ($35). A rich coconut based dessert with a lot of chewy balls and grass jelly. We stuck it in the fridge to make it extra cold so it was more refreshing.
Over all the food was pretty decent. Would return for actual dine in service. But for take away, the food held together well and nothing was spilt along the way.
