MEATS was a place I wanted to always try out, and their Friday lunches seem to always include a 90mins free-flow of red/white.
While we visited on a day averaging 9'c, MEATs had kept windows wide open to ensure there was enough airflow to combat COVID-19. Overall dishes were adequate for the price, but somewhat failed to live up to the expectation of 'amazing meats'. However they made it welcoming with their quality service and overall experience, and within expectations for the pricing and free-flow for lunch.
Starters
- shredded duck salad: overall an interesting and nice combination overall, however the shredded duck was a little too well salted. Had it been seasoned correctly it would have balanced well with the sweet watermelon.
-fish taco: was battered fried fish filets with pickled cabbage on soft taco shell. The taco shell felt very authentic as you can taste the maize. Overall a good balance of crunchiness and savoury and sourness from the picked cabbage.
Main
- Porchetta - somewhat disappointed as the pork skin was not crunchy, while the fat was rendered well it was not juicy - the meat was not well roasted. Had they attempted to recreate lechnon they might have had better success.
- half roast chicken - quite tender chicken, well herbed with crunchy skin, served with gravy. Not a bad roast chicken!
Both sides were served together in one dish (fries!) - which were done quite well as it was shoe string with potato skin left on. Albeit they could be more generous with the ketchup....
Dessert
- Grilled Pineapple - no faults really, balanced will with the peach-fruit sorbet light ice-cream. Good mixture of sweetness and sourness.
- Brownie - nice balanced between chocolate and ice-cream, however I've had better brownies which were more moist and had a gooey innards.
