Boyfriend and I passed by this place called 孖宝去骨海南鸡 (English name : Mario) and it served Hainan chicken. Declaring I was hungry, we went in for dinner.
Menu is in Chinese only. They offered a two people set that included two bowls of rice, soup, Hainan chicken and another main for $148 but we felt it was too much food so we just ordered Hainan chicken rice for each of us. With an extra $4, we got a drink. They do offer other chicken based dishes but if you look around, everyone orders Hainan chicken.
They started us off soup. This was pretty good as it was a chicken soup with pumpkin. Savory and sweet, it was not too oily for a chicken soup.
I had the Hainan chicken rice set ($62) as it came with a plate of vegetables. You can choose plain white rice but what's the point? If you're going for one of the most unhealthy foods in the world, then just go all out! The portion size was pretty big. There was a lot of rice so I ended up giving this to boyfriend. The rice was ok. Not oily but not a lot of chicken flavor, either. The chicken was moist and tender but it wasn't seasoned enough.
The set came with vegetables. These were fairly fresh and a generous portion.
Boyfriend ordered a Szechuan saliva chicken rice. You can choose portion size and boyfriend chose medium ($42). This was basically the same as the Hainan chicken except they put the chicken on top of the rice and the spicy Szechuan sauce on the side. Not poured over like other places. So, this is basically not that worth it unless you want some spicy sauce on the side. The sauce was just spicy anyways and not that remarkable.
For Hainan chicken, I've had better. It was tasty enough but not remarkable. Portions were generous so that was a major plus for big stomachs. Place is also very clean though service was a bit rushed at times. Unsure if I'd be back as it's pretty far from where I live. But if in the area, perhaps?
