Boyfriend met me in the Fortress Hill area one day I was here to pick up something I had dropped off to fix at the Maxi Mall. This is where we encountered a tiny little shop called 雪瀛手作 (English name: Setsuei Tezukuri). It seemed new to me and I was curious.
They appeared to sell onigirazu. Otherwise known as a rice burger. A sandwich made of rice and a crispy bit of nori. Menu is in Chinese only. There is no English but there are photos of all the food items. There is no 10% service charge. Though mostly for take away, they do have a few seats if you want to dine there. The rice burgers have four choices of sauce: sesame, black sesame, thousand island or wasabi.
They offer drinks and snacks as well as onigiri.
The drinks are cutely designed with a little antlers on top. They had three flavors (strawberry, yuzu and mango) priced at $18 each. They do, however, offer a deal where you can get a drink and snack for $12 if you order a rice burger. The snacks are basically Japanese marinated small octopus, seaweed and conch. We only decided on the drink. I chose mango (on the left) and boyfriend chose yuzu (on the right). The drinks were cute but a bit hard to drink out of the little hole. I later just twisted off the lid. The yuzu was ok but the I loved the mango one. It had tasted like mango Calpis!
Boyfriend ordered the beef patty rice burger ($42). The beef could have been grilled a bit longer but over all the taste was pretty good. There was bits of onion interspersed within. The lettuce and tomato were fresh and there was a bit of melted processed cheese as well.
I had the crab stick version ($35). This was really REALLY good. The nori was crispy. The rice sticky and soft. The crab sticks were actually grilled a bit beforehand instead of just slapped on. I'm glad I chose thousand island sauce as it went perfectly with it.
I've been obsessed with the onigirazu since my last trip to Naoshima where they had a form of this at the Chichu At Museum restaurant. So, I'm very glad I found a place nearby that serves this. Prices were cheap and everything is made to order. The staff was pretty friendly, too with a clear neighbourhood vibe. Will definitely be back for take away!
