Arisu has been attracting attention thanks to the inclusion in 2013 Hong Kong & Macau Michelin Guide. The dining experience was remarkable because of the very high authenticity. Despite being innocent and unaccustomed to the cuisine, the place is worth a visit because of being truly authentic. It was really innocent of me and my friend to expect the raw beef to be cooked in the stone pot after stirring, which is quite a common practice. We mixed together the beef, vegetables and egg and got excited for the lifetime first trial. Not my favorite, but it was eye-opening to have the kinda chewy raw beef.

It was once a haute cuisine, aka Korean royal court rice cake/ king’s snack in Chosŏn dynasty. Tteokbokki typically means Korean spicy rice cakes. The Gungjung (soy sauce) one is not spicy but savoury. It calls for a variety of colorful vegetables, mushrooms, vermicelli, and marinated beef which got stir fried together with the white cylinder rice cakes.

The only dish served hot. A delicate wrap stuffed with a mixture of vermicelli, pork and vegetables. Decent presentation. These little dumplings with variations of ingredients and cooking methods are prepared by families during Korean Lunar New Year as a symbol of luck.

Authenticity: 4.5
Atmosphere: 3 (not as fancy as its price)
Service: 3 (could be more welcoming e.g. refilling tea more frequently)
