Timeline:
28 Sep:
- I called the restaurant to inquire about a group party on 8 Oct (Fri)
- The lady who picked up the phone said they will respond by WhatsApp soon.
- I called 5 hours later to check if they got my phone number correctly. The lady said she would send a sample menu across immediately.
- I responded to the message with a few questions (see screenshot). No response til Thursday.
30 Sep:
- I called the restaurant. A girl picked up the phone & she said the "host" is around but the "host" refused to speak on the phone. Bobbi said she has asked the host to reply to me via WhatsApp. NO RESPONSE.
1 Oct:
- I called the restaurant again & they said the host is on leave.
- Eventually, I spent about 1 hour on the phone with the staff at Babacio on this day, but they couldn't provide me with any details.
- A manager named Roland called me and clarified that they can provide more choices, but he said that he couldn't confirm because everything about packages have to be confirmed by "the host".
- Roland said they will revert by WhatsApp tomorrow (Oct 2) but no response.
2 Oct: no update from Babacio
3 Oct: I messaged Roland via WhatsApp & he claimed that they would respond via WhatsApp within that day. NO RESPONSE.
4 Oct:
- "The host" responded to my WhatsApp message, spelling my name wrong...
- "The host" asked if I would like her to make an updated package - what is this question even? I have already asked very clearly about the portions. The host then proceeded to respond with very disrespectful & humiliating language:
- In the conversation, the host was completely unwilling to specify the portions in the package that she quoted for over HK$10,000, until I told her that it is unlawful in Hong Kong to do so.
I do not want to jeopardize people for their language skills, but frankly, the "host" was English-speaking and I am also a native English speaker. I do not think it was a language barrier, but more that the host was unwilling to provide the information for unknown reasons.
"You will not understand it for it is not your package"
--> Is this even acceptable were I not a customer? How can the "host" expect me to spend HK$10k+ without knowing what I am buying into & being treated in this manner???
Then all of a sudden she wants to answer my question? OK, feel free....
I thought the appallingly poor servicing attitude & the lack of transparency were mind-blowing enough, but I was wrong:
I don't understand how is it possible that a restaurant can be so rude to customers who call to inquire about a potential large booking. It is really mind-blowing and disgraceful. However good their food might be, I do not think it'd ever be worth it. It's a shame. I wish everyone who tries their food luck, but I will never ever visit Babacio for sure.
