We had a visitor who has a sweet tooth, so we took him for the egg tarts at Tai Cheong. I have to say, that, while not as good as Macau style egg tarts, these were pretty good. I normally like Macau egg tarts better for the flaky pastry and caramelized top. Here, they are made in the HK way with a shorter pastry and a pale egg custard.They were served piping hot and at $5 a piece, did not break the bank. They were served piping hot and at $5 a piece, did not break the bank. The tarts were, once they cooled, pretty sweet and crumbly. The custard was nice and creamy and the tart held it well enough. I have had them at other places and they weren't as good.
I still prefer Macau egg tarts, but the ones at Tai Cheong are pretty good.
