Deserve Better Toast & Coffee. The name popped up for me while I passed by it while I was on the bus. Menu is in English and Chinese. They offer four types of toast sandwiches. You can upgrade to add a basic drink that is a tropical passion lemon tea. Or you can upgrade to other drinks.
They have a coffee, tea and fruit juice. They also have a snack called Deserve Better hash browns.
As I was here for better toast and coffee, that is EXACTLY what I ordered. This is the bacon back and cheese toast sandwich ($35) with a latte ($+12).
The sandwich was supposed to have shredded cabbage, corn, egg and homemade strawberry sauce along with bacon and cheese. Well, I did get one slice of bacon that wasn't really crispy but this is not the fault of this estabishment as it seems how Asia in general likes to serve bacon. Noncrispy and just like heated slice of ham. The cabbage was crispy and a decent amount of egg with bits of corn found in it. There was a sweet sauce, I assume is the strawberry sauce. It sounded weird but it worked. But where was the cheese???? I couldn't find it at all. I kept munching away and found no cheese until near the end, I found a corner of what appeared to be processed cheese bits. It wasn't a bad sandwich. The bread was toasty and warm. But somehow, I deserved better. I did like the toast shaped plate it was served on. I think I saw something like that some where and had thought to buy it at one point. I wish I did now.
I ordered a latte. With a name like Deserve Better Toast and Coffee, it must be rocking right? Well, no. Half my cup was foam. There was far too much milk so the coffee was all watered down. It felt like I was drinking a foamy cup of milk flavored coffee. Upon looking at the previous review, I noticed I didn't even at least get a cute logo cup to at least get social media likes. Did they run out that day? I don't know but I knew one thing. I deserved better.
Definitely wouldn't come back for the coffee. There are far better ones in Wanchai. But the toast sandwich was decent enough though I wish there was at least more cheese. For that I might order something else. Prices are cheap enough for a light meal. I may be back. But yes, I do deserve better. So, I'll just sit and dream of a place that will one day give me something better.
