Nakamura Tokichi originates from Kyoto from a 7th generation family where the eldest son will change their name to Nakamura Tokichi when they take over the company. So, when they first branched out with their first shop in Hong Kong, a lot of people queued up to drink some tea and have everything matcha under the sun. Now, a year after it's opening, they now have a take away shop for ice cream and tea only. The shop also has their tea cakes and cookies for sale as well. Well, for Hong Kong standards, for a take away shop, it's pretty big.
I came when it was still new and not many knew about it. So, wait time wasn't very long. But I read from a blog that now that more people know about it, there is about an hour wait. Just for ice cream.
Menu is in English, Japanese and Chinese. As this is take away only, there is no 10% service charge.
Matcha and Hoijcha Soft Serve ($53). This was sublime. So, if you ask me if it was worth the wait in line ... it depends on how patient you are, but I would definitely return again for this. The ice cream was smooth and creamy. The flavor of the tea was strong. A smooth yet sweet azuki bean paste was placed on top along with soft yet chewy dango. A spoon is given for you to scoop the lovely little dessert. The cone was crunchy and sweet. I appreciated that there were no empty gaps in the soft serve.
