My younger brother recommended me to try out Satay King, as he couldn't get enough of the food the first few times he went. So I decided to take a couple of friends to the Mong Kok branch after work one day.

Once we arrived, there were loads of people waiting to get a table both inside and outside the restaurant. Luckily, we secured our table for four immediately, as the other people waiting must've been with a larger group of people. The place was absolutely jumping, which made me think I was in for a really good dinner.

Per my brother's recommendations, he said to order items such as the deep fried squid and spicy-salt tofu. The only problem was that there were only photos of the dishes on the table, accompanied with the Chinese name for each dish. There was no English translation of what each dish was, which posed a problem for my friends and I as none of us can read Chinese. My brother later told me that there is an English menu, but we weren't presented with this once we sat down and we didn't know this was an option at the time.

So we stuck with what we could make out and ordered what looked like tofu squares and deep friend squid. We also ordered a drink each - I ordered the iced honey green tea which was refreshing and had a good balance of sweetness.

We didn't have to wait long for our food. The only problem was that our guesses as to what dish was what was completely wrong. In the end, we were served turnip cake, chicken knuckles, a plate of mixed Chinese vegetables and seafood fried rice. Luckily my friends and I are not fussy eaters, and were happy to sample the dishes we had chosen.

There were two disappointing things with the food we got. The first is that there was far too much grease and oil used to cook the food. There were little pools of grease that had collected at the bottom of each dish, and second, the food was not hot at all. Considering it took a short time for our food to be served to us after ordering, I'm not really sure what happened...
The staff were attentive and friendly, which made things a bit better.

I would give Satay King another chance, as there were so many people waiting for a table before and after we had finished dinner. The set dinner options looked quite interesting, so I would look into that too. As for value for money, it wasn't too steep, as $80 per person covered four of us. We were all quite full at the end of it. Too bad about the temperature and amount of grease though - it kind of put me off enjoying the rest of my meal.
