A special occasion came a special dinner. I have always wanted to try this restaurant, especially when it's got the recognition from Michelin. The interior of the place is definitely classy and decent, with a nice staircase that leads you up to the restaurant. We ordered a bottle of French red wine after a detailed introduction from one of the wine specialist, and of course another bottle of sparkling water that costs you $80. The interior of the place is definitely classy and decent, with a nice staircase that leads you up to the restaurant. We ordered a bottle of French red wine after a detailed introduction from one of the wine specialist, and of course another bottle of sparkling water that costs you $80.
They serve two kinds of tasting menus - 4 or 5 courses. We both opted for the 5 courses ones, and I picked their signature Quail and Foie Gras with roasted fig as starter, the fixed tomato water with lobster and urchin, Linguine with red prawn, meat trio and finally caramel fig with vanilla ice-cream as dessert.
The starter entered my mouth with a pleasant surprise. I have to say it's one of the best foie gras I have ever tasted in my life. The taste is just right, and it slowly melts in your mouth. Not like the other usual foie gras, it doesn't feel too oily or soft. The quail is a nice compliment to it where the quail meat is tender and the light oily presence in your mouth makes it a delicious dish.
The tomato water with lobster and urchin was an interesting course to follow. By having a sip of the tomato water after a bite of the lobster, it brought out the fresh taste of the seafood, and it just helps your appetite. Though the urchin was a shadow to the lobster, it's still a great dish.
The came the Linguine with red prawn. Compared with the 2 previous dishes, i gotta say this one lacks talking points. The linguine was definitely well made and the prawn was fresh, but the overall taste didn't wow me. My friend ordered a spaghetti with squid ink and said it's good. I will definitely pick something else if I were to visit this place again.
Finally it's the beef trio, which features 3 pieces of different beef - the ox tongue, waygu tenderloin, and braised beef. The chef recommends that we start from the tongue onwards as the taste would go from mild to rich. All 3 were tasty, with the meat tender and juicy, but it also didn't impress me as much. Maybe it's because I have also had top quality beef dishes elsewhere before (may be even at a cheaper price) , but subconsciously I do have higher expectation for a place like this.
The service, however, is top class with all the waiters and waitresses friendly and profession, and their attention to details is highly appreciated. Since we only secured the table for 2 hours due to another booking, we moved to their bar section to finish our bottle of wine. They arranged another private table at the section where we could keep on enjoying our dessert and our wine undistributed, which was a decent and thoughtful arrangement.
Of course it's not a restaurant that you will go week-in week-out, but surely it's a good experience for a special occasion like the one tonight.
