This is a regular lunch location for me, and it has been consistently good until recently. The is the second time in a row that I have had a meal in Sake and Yakitori in which no way reflects the previous lunches I have had there before. With that saying the place still has its regular customers, but it is definitely not as busy as it use to be. I am wondering if they have changed the chef. The regular dish I tend to opt for is the eel lunch set, whilst most of my fellow companions favour the grilled chicken lunch set. The lunch sets are a good value and for your money, you get extra sides of miso soup, salad, an ice cream mochi dessert and ample green tea top ups.
Unfortunately this time I cannot sing my praises for the eel rice lunch set, normally the rice part is one of my favourites. They serve the rice topped with chinese mushrooms and minced pork, however the chef overdid it with the sauce, making my rice very salty and soggy. The eel was too soft and very luke warm, veering towards cold, again they overdid it on the sauce. This meal was a definitely overdose on salt. I am glad to say the salad which I normally enjoy was still enjoyable.
The grilled chicken lunch set takes longer, so be prepared for a wait whilst your companions are digging into their own food. The meat is succulent and the skin on the chicken is crisp. A good lunch set if you are a fan of chicken.
As a regular I am hoping that I have just been plain unluckily lets hope that when I do venture there again the glitches have been sorted out, if not well then I guess it's time to move on. Give it a try and find out.
