You've probably seen the photos online of a bowl of ramen with slices of char siu just layered on top. Meat lovers eyes will boggle out. But you don't have to travel to Japan as there is a place in Hong Kong that does the same thing.面屋丸京 (English name: Menya Maru Kyou) is a small ramen shop in Kwai Chung that specializes in this. Due to its popularity, it opened up two more restaurants in Ngau Tau Kok and Tseun Wan. Boyfriend and I decided to try the Ngu Tau Kok branch as it was closer to us.Men

Menu is in Chinese only but they do have a photo of what it looks like. They offer a daily limited item of slow cooked char siu that they had run out when we arrived. Ordering is through a check off piece of paper to choose if you want spring onions or bamboo shoots. They offer two types of soup bases: strong or light.
We both choose the ramen with the piles of char siu and an egg for $93. Boyfriend chose a strong soup. It was a bit too salty and you really couldn't taste the actual broth.
I had the lighter broth and was much better.
It had a cleaner taste. It had a light soy sauce broth with pork bone.
The noodles were the thick kind and were al dente with no starchy after taste.
The char siu was great. Soft and flavorful. Sliced very thin.
A good hot bowl of ramen, packed with meat. Great for this type of weather. No wonder it was so popular they opened up two more restaurants.
