To a food lover like me, there is never too much Japanese BBQ and this place has always been on my list since ages ago because of all the positive comments despite being a low-profile restaurant. What’s more, you can simply sit back, relax, and enjoy your food as everything will be handled by the waiting staff (yes, including the fun yet challenging cooking part). So I finally went all the way to Sheung Wan with my friend to check out what this place and their food are like. Turned out it’s a tiny cosy place adorned with some artsy paintings.
All the BBQ essentials including beef, pork and chicken are covered, not to mention their best partner, fruity mocktails and beers. We ended up picking a dinner set for 2 cos we were simply lazy.
One thing worth noting is that all the ingredients were marinated and prepared to order to ensure freshness. It definitely gives the chefs more work but it’s worth the effort.More than 10 items were included in the dinner set so here we go the food photos and comments.
Japanese salad was a healthy kick-start to the meal with the slightly sour and light dressing. Would have been even more appetizing had the veggie been more chillied.
Salted ox tongue is always a good idea for BBQ, regardless of the style and the green onions in this one added an extra aroma to the chewy ox tongue. Two pieces for each person was just not enough!
BBQ sauce beef (left) which I guess was short ribs were tender, flavoursome but still beefy. Loved the mildly sweet sauce that made them even more delectable. Spicy miso rib finger (right) was a bit more fatty and tenderer. The meat was well marinated and we both enjoyed the spicy kick in it.
Salted Matsusaka pork was another popular item and you can’t really go wrong with that bouncy and fatty cut. This ones didn’t surprise us, but were as tasty as expected.
Butter boneless chicken leg and chicken wings were a bit bland but I liked the lightly charred and crispy outer layer. The chicken wings were also halved so they can be cooked and eaten more easily. Very thoughtful of the owner.
And then there came a veggie platter with zucchini, king oyster mushroom, green pepper and sweet corn to balance out all the fats we have taken in. Nothing really stood out tastewise but sweet corn and green peppers topped my list since they were juicy and fresh.
Japanese rice ball was a nice and filling dish with the lightly seasoned rice, crunchy crust and sliced seaweed.
Finally there was the cold soba to end the dinner with but we were way too full to finish it even though the noodles went well with the sesame dressing. Maybe they can replace this or the rice ball with a sweet note like ice cream or pudding to make it a genuinely complete meal.
So this place really lives up to the great expectations and just give it a try if you are a laid-back BBQ lover.张贴
