Mukshidonna is a very popular Korean restaurant in Seoul. They are known for their tteokbokki which you eat in a hotpot setting. After eating everything, they will use the leftover sauce to make fried rice that you finish as well. It's a fairly cheap Korean restaurant and something that is loved when I go to Korea for being so cheap.

I found out that they had opened a branch in Hong Kong. One located in Mong Kok, the other in Causeway Bay. As I live near Causeway Bay, boyfriend and I decided to try it for dinner one evening.

The menu is in the form of a piece of paper that you use a red pen to circle what you want. This is how you order: you choose the type of tteokbokki. It is $78 per person so for two people, you can choose two different versions. You then choose what noodle type you want for $25. You then add any extra toppings for $18 each (except for cheese which is $25). If you want more toppings, you can add on later. Then step four, you choose the type of fried rice you want (regular for $25 and cheese rice for $35).

I noticed they had lunch sets that limit you somewhat.

We ordered the seafood and bulgogli tteotbokki ($78 each). The noodle we chose was ramen aka instant noodle ($25) and the following toppings: seaweed noodle roll ($18), fried dumpling ($18), ham ($18), oden ($18). We ended with a fried cheese rice for $35.

A pot of bubbling soup came out with all the toppings we ordered along with the ramen added inside. Technically, everything is cooked so you really don't need to wait. You  can just start digging in. The tteotbokki was really good. Soft and chewy. Not hard and indigestible as sometimes I fear it to be. Everything we ordred seemed to soak up the soup that got more and more spicy as time went on. The bulgogli beef was moist and tender. Though the seafood was ok with a mix of mussels and squid. I did like the fried dumplings.

We were given pickled daikon to clense the palate from the spicy soup. These were ok and quite tart.

The seaweed noodle rolls were my favorite. They were served on a separate plate so we could dip it quickly into the boiling soup. I liked the mix of vermicelli and seaweed, all wrapped into one.

After we finished eating everything inside the bubbling hotpot, we asked for the rice. Now, this was very different than the Korean shop in that they did not fry the rice in front of us, using the soup we had just dined off of. Instead, it was made in the kitchen and brought out. I wonder why they changed this in Hong Kong?

Either way, the rice will always be my favorite. Something about cheese, seaweed, corn and kimchi all mixed together works so well. The rice was chewy. It wasn't too spicy. And the cheese! It just strings out on and on and on.

Fun to try. Though I think I like the rice out of everything. I know a few girlfriends who'd want to try this, so maybe I'll be back with them. Making a note of the service. We had a really nice waitress who spoke English. She was helpful in answering our tedious questions.
