This place only serves lamb/goat meat. As you enter the store, there is a lingering smell of cumin and other spices. It is enticing and warm, and I could see during my time there that they have a steady flow of customers coming in, even in the late afternoon. The menu is exclusively lamb-based, and the waitress pointedly advised me that they only serve lamb when I asked if there was pork inside of their meat and chive dumplings. The menu is exclusively lamb-based, and the waitress pointedly advised me that they only serve lamb when I asked if there was pork inside of their meat and chive dumplings. It's also exhaustively lamb-based, with all the parts of the animal on offer as toppings or in individual dishes. I opt for the lamb meat wheat noodles ($50), where the alternative choice would be rice noodles.
The noodles come out as an appetising bowl of steaming soup topped with thinly sliced meat, greens, and a delightfully bright red oil floating on top. I'm salivating and dig in immediately. The noodles are thick and bouncy, and totally slurpable. The meat is tender and quite gamey, and the best way to eat it is with some dried chilli powder and some raw garlic that you nibble on as you eat through the dish. There are several other condiments like vinegar, soy, cumin/spice powder and salt, but the fresh garlic just gave the flavours a whole extra dimension. It was delicious and addictive, and I just couldn't stop.
I want to say that the noodles are really something. The texture is rough and handmade in style, and that was a real plus for me. The rough surface picked up the oils and the soup perfectly, and I would come back just for this.
By the time I got up to leave, the place had filled up significantly, with what seemed to be return customers, slurping happily at their bowls. That will be me, next time.
