Located right off of one of the entrances to the brand new mall in Taiwai, with warm wooden themed decor and very open cafe style. It’s quite cozy and welcoming at first glance. The first warning sign was the fact that this restaurant was empty in comparison to others, at 8pm. To be fair to them, the staff did warn us most of their food were sold out, and asked us to check their ordering app to see if we would like any of the options left. That was fair, and we decided to give it a try anyways!
The food options were seriously limited, which we were warned about. We had the smoked salmon and avocado sourdough with arugula, $108. This one is normal and decent. The bread was not toasted though, and there was a good amount of sour cream hidden underneath the salmon, which was not on the menu… unfortunately my friend hates sour cream so it took a while to remove them ourselves.

I ordered the Sichuan style popcorn chicken with chili mayo sauce, $78. This was, to put it lightly, disappointing. Chicken came out piping hot, which I normally would have loved. However, it was dry due to being overcooked, completely tasteless except for a strong frying oil taste… the sauce was weird, it was not spicy and did not have much of a flavor to it... it tasted like a diluted sriracha but somehow maintained a thick texture without the richness…

The vibe was… interesting… one could say they are friendly and carefree (by the way dogs at the cafe are allowed), while it can also be interpreted as unprofessional or passive aggressive. Throughout the meal, we learnt from loud conversations between the staff that they were rushing to close shop to rush to their own dinner plans, but they never said anything or rushed any of the customers, which was good. One of them had screamed (quietly) a couple times because she hurt herself during work. She was not loud, we were just sitting close by and were a little startled.. All in all the staff were extremely polite when interacting with customers.
I would be interested to try some of their unavailable food items in the future, but in the meantime, there are lots to be improved.
