The service was as warm and cozy as when I used to be a more regular patron, there was no sign of impatience on the part of the staff despite it was almost time for last orders. The staff was very considerate and conscientious in reminding clients of portion sizes and the prices of food and beverages not on the regular menu.
The warm consommé was rich and tasted of "beef concentrate" - much needed on a chilly night as an appetizer. The bread was fresh. The beef cheeks were very tender and well marinated and the gravy was not too heavy. The lobsters were fresh and firm in texture, unlike the watery specimens that second-rated eateries would offer. The angel hair pasta was slightly dry but the garlic flavour was not too strong and enhanced the taste. The crispy almond pastry sticks were sweet and crispy which served well as deserts. Coupled with a light red pinot noir to go with the the dishes and the wondrous night view amidst the fumes from the Christmas candles, this had to be one of my most satisfying meals of this quarter. It was a luxurious meal but with the view, the service and the food and wine, somehow I considered $1000 a reasonable price.
