have not written on openrice for a long time but just felt the need to warn other foodies that this was the one of the worst dining experiences i've ever had and definitely the worst in tai hang. was attracted by the decor of this place - modern, laid back location, chic and pretty chilled. ordered a cocktail - so far so good- till my friend arrived and as she did not want anything alcoholic that night she just opted for gingerale. When she asked for gingerale the short haired hostess at the bar was like "WHAT. why don't you drink our cocktails we have non alcoholic ones" in a rude way. I am not even one of those people who get mad easily because of sub-standard service. But that was pretty rude . I mean who does that? what if we ordered gingerale because we cannot afford cocktails? hostess if you are reading this - leave people alone!
anyway- that would have been ok if the food was good. but no. our "crunchy konbu seaweed" appetizer was like eating stale cardboard paper. seriously - if you want to try one of the most disgusting foods EVER, come and order the crunchy konbu! half my family are Japanese so believe me it is not because I am simply not used to konbu.
the ox tongue was not good at all, tho still edible. the kurobuta pork skewer was also edible but definitely not worth ordering for over $80 a skewer (can't really rmb how much it was but overall for the things listed above we paid around 400hkd) it also did not have much flavour and instead of really being a "kimchi kurobuta skewer" with the pork marinated in kimchi sauce, it really was just an ordinary pork skewer with some kimchi paste. at least it was edible though.
the hamachi was absolutely bland - dry and flavourless. I actually ordered a Wagyu Rice as well but because they forgot to note it down, I was happy it did not come and just finished with this place ASAP. I went somewhere else in the area for another dinner immediately. definitely never coming again. there are plenty of better eateries in Tai Hang.
