📍Lion Rock 狮房菜Lion Rock used “Chinese Omakase” as gimmick regarding their 9 course tasting menu. Not sure if they understood what it meant by omakase but this word has definitely been used abusively in HK. For the trio appetizers, the two tomato soup balls were quite interesting but the outer shells were a bit thick to enjoy. The fish maw and clam pepper soup was fine but just a bit bland. The M5 wagyu beef, the baked abalone and 狮子头 were all a bit under seasoned. I was looking forward to the lobster bisque with crispy rice but again a bit bland.
My favorite of the day was probably the Tigar prawn with mango as the Tigar prawn was bouncy and goes well with the mango sauce.
The dessert was meh as it’s just coconut jelly and a salmon lookalike Mochi thingy.
Overall, the chef is probably trying a bit too hard but sort of forgetting the basics of Chinese food. After all, it all boils down to taste over presentation.
Considering that it’s buy one get one free at the moment, I am fine with it. But I would not be returning though.
