Have been to King's Dumpling several times in the past (both the branch at The One and the old branch in Causeway Bay) and found their pork dumplings to be good standard. So decided to apply for this food tasting event when I saw the ad on OpenRice - and felt very happy and excited to be chosen! On the day I arrived on time at the restaurant in Wan Chai. It was just before 3pm and the place was empty (later learned that this branch had just opened for 2 weeks). Told the waitress standing in
On the day I arrived on time at the restaurant in Wan Chai. It was just before 3pm and the place was empty (later learned that this branch had just opened for 2 weeks). Told the waitress standing in front of the restaurant that I was coming for the OpenRice event and she asked me to take the elevator to the VIP room on the 1st Floor.
When I got to the VIP room I was warmly greeted by both the OpenRice staff and the restaurant staff. Comapred to the main restaurant downstairs, this "VIP Room" was actually quite basic without much deco. However the large windows provided a nice city view and open feel. Several 4 seater tables were neatly set up and it was free seating. As I sat down a waitress starting serving tea (thought it was Pu Er tea as first but later learned that it was Liu An). After all guests gradually arrived (25 of us in total) and some quick introductions it was time to start tasting!
First we were served one bowl of double boiled chicken soup each. First impression is always important this first course did not disppoint. The soup was full of natural chicken flavour wihtout being too oily or heavy. The manager explained that they used free range chicken from Kadoorie Farm. The chicken meat (thigh meat) was quite tender!

Thank you Openrice and King's Dumpling for organising this. I found it to be a valuable experience to really focus on the food tasting, and also to be able to meet and share with other fellow foodies!
