Have been to King's Dumpling several times in the past (both the branch at The One and the old branch in Causeway Bay) and found their pork dumplings to be good standard.  So decided to apply for this food tasting event when I saw the ad on OpenRice - and felt very happy and excited to be chosen!  On the day I arrived on time at the restaurant in Wan Chai.  It was just before 3pm and the place was empty (later learned that this branch had just opened for 2 weeks).  Told the waitress standing in

Told the waitress standing in front of the restaurant that I was coming for the OpenRice event and she asked me to take the elevator to the VIP room on the 1st Floor.

When I got to the VIP room I was warmly greeted by both the OpenRice staff and the restaurant staff.  Comapred to the main restaurant downstairs, this "VIP Room" was actually quite basic without much deco.  However the large windows provided a nice city view and open feel.  Several 4 seater tables were neatly set up and it was free seating.  As I sat down a waitress starting serving tea (thought it was Pu Er tea as first but later learned that it was Liu An).  After all guests gradually arrived (25 of us in total) and some quick introductions it was time to start tasting!

First we were served one bowl of double boiled chicken soup each.  First impression is always important this first course did not disppoint.  The soup was full of natural chicken flavour wihtout being too oily or heavy.  The manager explained that they used free range chicken from Kadoorie Farm.  The chicken meat (thigh meat) was quite tender!

Next came two cold appetisers (pork knuckles and a mixed salad with seaweed, vermicelli and dried beancurd).  Honestly they were quite ordinary, although the salad was a refeshing side dish.

Then their signature dish (steamed pork dumplings) arrived! Although the skin might not be the thinnest, the dumpling was tasty and juicy.

Next we were served one big bowl of beef noodles each! This was also their signature dish. This time they especially changed the noodles to the thicker handmade type, but most of us found the noodles too tough... the beef was tender though.

The remaining two dishes (fried dumplings and chicken) were not that exciting...  The fried pork dumplings looked good, but the one I tasted was too dry and floury.  The Three Cup Chicken (served in hot pot) was supposed to be a traditional Taiwanese dish, but their version was way too spicy and the chicken seemed overcooked.

Luckily the finale that we were all waiting for (Chocolate Dumplings) did not disappoint!  It was a novelty dish.  While the outside looked just like a normal steamed dumpling, the inside was filled with melting chocolate!  Usually such a chocolate dish would only be good if good quality chocolate was used - and they did use dark Japanese chocolate.  It turned out to be such a hit that we were all offered an extra one each!

题外话/补充资料: Thank you Openrice and King's Dumpling for organising this. I found it to be a valuable experience to really focus on the food tasting, and also to be able to meet and share with other fellow foodies!
