I have been following Elephant Grounds for awhile & trying out ice cream & coffee at various locations (Sheung Wan, K11, Causeway).I had high hopes for Sunday brunch with some friends, but unfortunately the delay in the food getting to the table, lack of reliable service, & smug attitude I received from the staff will most likely mean a second visit won't be happening.I think EG is great as a café or creamery, but they have not mastered the art of running a full-service restaurant. I think EG is great as a café or creamery, but they have not mastered the art of running a full-service restaurant. There was a 20 minute gap between each of our group receiving their meals. We were forced to eat separately because of this, & given attitude when we asked about a dish that took almost 45 minutes to arrive.Even getting the bill paid was delayed.
The food wouldn't have been to bad had it not been late. The chorizo salmon hash was flavorful and well-prepared, the california grilled cheese had amazing bread and great taste, and the avocado toast was generously decked with avocado slices and had a great kick of flavor. As usual, the salted caramel icecream was unbelievably rich—the perfect combination of sweet and salty.
My overall recommendation is to stick to the Sheung Wan cafe for ice cream sandwiches & coffee. Don't go there for a meal unless you want to leave frustrated & disappointed.
