What's worse than spending HKD470 for 3 very ordinary dishes for 2 persons, without alcohol, only Chinese tea?   Being given stale, elephant clam that has gone off, but hidden under a few fresh pieces, and all drowned in thick black bean sauce - for about HKD200!  Or given 2 over-steamed, tasteless pieces of scallops from China, with only a few pieces of bean thread and spring onion for garnishinng; not even a bit of sesame oil and soy sauce - priced at HKD58 each!  The third dish was simply a t

What's worse than spending HKD470 for 3 very ordinary dishes for 2 persons, without alcohol, only Chinese tea?   Being given stale, elephant clam that has gone off, but hidden under a few fresh pieces, and all drowned in thick black bean sauce - for about HKD200!  Or given 2 over-steamed, tasteless pieces of scallops from China, with only a few pieces of bean thread and spring onion for garnishinng; not even a bit of sesame oil and soy sauce - priced at HKD58 each!  The third dish was simply a toufu and mushroom stew, so what could possibly go wrong?  Nothing, except the price - HKD150?!  My friend and I were rushing to catch the ferry back to the mainland to watch the National Day fireworks, so we did not bother to complain.  But we swear we would never, ever go to Sampan again, and we would tell everybody we know never to dine there!  We expected seafood to cost a bit, but the dishonesty with which the restaurant treated us "tourists" (from Kowloon) was unpardonable. This restaurant should get an inspection visit from the HK Tourism Board to demand a good reason for them to have their licenced renewed!
