We came for the famed curry buffet at Ladies Purse originally, but were disappointed to learn that it wasn't available due to Christmas special arrangements. Went to Oi Suen for Chinese dinner as the menus had been revised.
The traditional long boiled soup was quite warming and tasted of figs and assorted beans and pork. The tea leaf smoked egg was rather special and was melting in the core with a prevailing fragrance of tea leaves. The salt and pepper deep fried diced beancurd was crispy and the spices were stimulating. The breaded mutton chops were rich but slightly heavy for my taste. The lightly floured king size prawns were delicious and fresh with a firm consistency. The fried chicken was slightly heavy in seasoning but it went well with rice. The stir fry beef appeared to be a mundane dish, but here it was nicely done - the beef wasn't dripping with oil and it kept one's palate "light and grease-free". The glutinous rice and choi sum were of standard quality. The traditional Chinese desserts consisted of "double-skinned milk" which was a crispy and puffy vol-au-vent covering the smooth milk custard and "tongyuan" which were glutinous flour balls with different ingredients.
This was a most satisfactory and filling meal at the bargain price of $450 per head.
