The lunchtime rush is quite busy. I came here at 2pm on a weekday and took the last available single seat. The people after me needed to wait at least 10 min. I ordered the lunch set, which includes the Beef Lamian (they call it "ramen"), an appetizer, and a soft drink. Everyone around me is eating the soup noodles, and so it seems that it is the popular choice. I ordered the lunch set, which includes the Beef Lamian (they call it "ramen"), an appetizer, and a soft drink. Everyone around me is eating the soup noodles, and so it seems that it is the popular choice.
The noodles arrive quickly, and it is a steaming bowl brimming with sliced beef and a forest of coriander. The smell is appetizing and the soup is complex with aromatics. I add some condiments that are offered at the table - minced garlic and chilli, which suddenly add another dimension to the flavour of the soup. The beef is lean and finely sliced, and there is a lot of it. It tastes lovely together with the crunch of fresh coriander.
The noodles are well cooked, but still maintained a good amount of chew. The appearance and texture is of a machine-manufactured noodle, and did not have the smooth pliancy of a hand-pulled lamian. So, whilst the soup and meat were delectable, the noodles were not able to please at that level.
My appetizer order of Smoked Duck arrived well after the noodles, and were three pieces of tender, sliced duck breast on top of a bed of shredded cucumber. It is simple, and has a nice smokey flavour.
I would perhaps return to try the sliced lamb noodle, but I do wish for better noodles!
