We were walking through Wan Chai and walked past this familiar looking place. It looks just like one of our favourite ramen places, 'Bari-Uma' .It could be from the same group, but the experience was a little different. They are quite rigid with their seating so for example, they won't let 2 groups of 2 sit in their 4 people area (despite it being made up of 2 tables pushed together), which perhaps was a bit pointless or they worked it out to be more efficient, but anyway, we ended up sitting a
They are quite rigid with their seating so for example, they won't let 2 groups of 2 sit in their 4 people area (despite it being made up of 2 tables pushed together), which perhaps was a bit pointless or they worked it out to be more efficient, but anyway, we ended up sitting at the bar table. The staff in general were efficient and attentive.
You can choose the amount of noodles you want from 200g up to 400g and beyond that is an additional charge of $45 for a whopping 800g. You can also specify whether you want the noodles to be hot or cold, which seems a little pernickety but it does make a slight difference. Hot noodles tend to have more of a wheaty taste behind it, whereas the cold is less so about the taste, but more about the chewy texture. Just think of it like cheese tasting different depending on if it's sliced, grated or melted etc, but it's down to your individual taste.
I started of with one of my favourite snacks, edamame beans and they came cold, salted and tasted as you would expect. The portion was decent and for $20 it was good value.
We both chose the noodles with the spicy soup (separated )and BBQ Pork, but I went for 400g of noodles and my girlfriend went for 300g with an additional piece of BBQ pork and soft-centred egg. The noodles were al dente and slightly firm when bitten into and that's just how I like it, the BBQ pork was tender and not overly fatty, which I find is the case with many ramen restaurants. The soup was well flavoured but let me warn you that when they say spicy they really mean it's spicy! I was sweating like crazy but still enjoying it while drinking copious amounts of water and patting my head down with the tissues.
There was a minor mishap as the egg was actually hard-boiled, but once we informed them of this, they were happy to replace it immediately so it's not a big deal at all.
FINAL VERDICT:
MAN UP AND TRY THE SPICY NOODLES IF YOU THINK YOU CAN TAKE IT!
