My friend and I did not have a booking but we decided to try our luck at SML anyway to see if we can get a table. We arrived at around 8:30pm and waited patiently in front of the host. However the host did not look up from her book to address us for at least 3 minutes. I understand that she was very busy but thought she could have at least said hello and asked us to wait instead of ignoring us. I finally got fed up and asked if they had a table available. She told us they only had seats at
We arrived at around 8:30pm and waited patiently in front of the host. However the host did not look up from her book to address us for at least 3 minutes. I understand that she was very busy but thought she could have at least said hello and asked us to wait instead of ignoring us. I finally got fed up and asked if they had a table available. She told us they only had seats at the bar and we took it anyway.
When we got inside, we realized the bar was very cramped, but luckily the guy waiter offered us a low lounge table by the bar area.
We ordered Salmon tata, Octopus Salad, Baked Macaroni, linguini with uni and pork pizzola to share. The salmon tata was fine and it was fun to pick and choose what ingredients you want to mix into it. The octopus salad had a lot of potato and very little octopus. I though the backed macaroni was under salted, so it just tasted of cream. The first 3 dishes came out very fast but then we waited 45 mins and had to remind our waiter that we were still waiting for food before the last 2 dishes came out. The linquini with uni was very sweet for some reason and too sweet for my taste. The pork pizzola was basically a piece of pork with tomato sauce and cheese. It tasted ok but not great. At this point we were still hungry so we ordered a cod, hanger steak and shrimp toast on the waiters recommendation. The steak was cold, the cod was tiny and the shrip toast was oily.
Overall, think the food at SML is ok only. I think they pre-cook many of the dishes and that's why the dishes are either lukewarm or cold by the time they arrive. Also given think it's very difficult for the Kitchen to maintain quality given they have to turn out so many dishes.
It was fun to try the restaurant for novalty factor but not sure if I would go back because the quality of the food was sub-par.
