Not a good dining experience.Although I'm not Chinese, Hainan chicken rice is one of my favorite dishes and I had a strong craving for it today. I went to "Hainan Shaoye" last month and had a good experience there but I didn't feel like queing as last time I went I had to wait 20 minutes for a table. I read on a magazine about this place and really wanted to try it. The location is a bit difficult to find and quite out of the way (between two golf shops). I called to try and make a reservation b

I read on a magazine about this place and really wanted to try it. The location is a bit difficult to find and quite out of the way (between two golf shops). I called to try and make a reservation but I was told they don't take reservations...fair enough. Decided to go a bit earlier and when I arrived there were only 3 tables eating so I thought "great!" However, when I asked the reception for a table she told my friend (We couldn't communicate as she didn't speak english) that the tables were reserved!! The waiters don't seem to have a clue to whats going on and were fairly rude. I didn't want to make a fuss so I waited for a bit and we got a table in 10 mins.
We ordered roast chicken, hainan chicken and Laksa. The roast chicken was really dry and the hainan chicken was bland and tasteless. The rice was quite flavorful but way too mushy. The Laksa soup base was decent...only if you got pass the inch thick layer of red oil on top. I understand Laksa is meant to have some red oil on top but I don't think its meant to be covering the all the ingredients on top as well?! When I asked the waitress...she said "...thats our style and how it is serve authentically." I mean, guys...if your not that creative with your food, at least try to be a bit more creative with your excuses. I've been to Singapore over a dozen times and I've eaten laksa for over 30 years now...please don't treat your customers like idiots.
The decor is plain and looks like any "cha chan teng" and the seats are uncomfortable.
Verdict: Bad food, average decor, no view, poor service and overpriced given the quality. WON'T BE BACK.
