Dinner with the ladies. Odyssée started with Aurelie Altemaire (who had spent 10 years with Joël Robuchon) as chef de cuisine. However, seems that Chef Aurelie has now left. Choice of 3 course ($1,180), 4 course ($1,380), 8 course ($1,480), or 9 course ($1,680). The whole table had to go for the same menu; server strongly recommended the 9 course but we went for the 8 course menu- the difference being the Blue Lobster, which none of us was a fan of. Detox nite for everybody. No alcohol allowed.H

Detox nite for everybody. No alcohol allowed.
Here’s what we had.
Welcome crackers
Snack trio, being crab and cucumber tart (left); truffle with almond soup on cracker (right); Salmon tartar (not pictured). One of the cucumber tarts had its top peeled off- had to ask server to replace.
Sourdough bread with butter
Kristal Gold Caviar with Smoked Trout. Server came to pour in a Wasabi pea soup. Wealth of flavors.
Hokkaido Scallops Tartare with Fennel, Yuzu, green apple and ginger
Poached Japanese John Dory topped with a layer of Onion Pissaladière (ie caramelized onion, olives and anchovy) and Crispy Rice. On the side: Octopus ink sauce.
Roasted Saddle of Aveyron Lamb with French Beans and Anchoiade (ie a spread made with anchovies, olive oil and garlic). Whilst the Aveyron Lamb and the saddle cut had been known for being tender and juicy, mine was very chewy and tasted very gamey.
Wished I had followed the ladies and added $180 for the Grilled A4 Sirloin from Kagoshima (鹿儿岛) instead.
Bresse Pigeon with Beetroot sauce with Morelo Cherries and patty of Polenta (ie yellow cornmeal). My favorite dish of the night: texture was tender with crispy skin on the leg.
Palette cleanser: Olive Oil Ice-Cream with Coriander, on a bed of Mango and kiwi. Hated coriander- couldn’t finish. Actually would have enjoyed the Olive Oil Ice-Cream on its own. What a waste.
Dessert: sponge cake with Sakura Tea, Strawberries and Rhubarb, topped with Ice-Cream. Sponge tasted bland and dry.
To finish off: pastries with Mango and coconut; and hazelnut with coffee beans.
Servers never enquired how we liked our meat done. No one came to refill our hot water.
Could hear the hilarity coming probably from the private room of another restaurant. Smell of cigarette and cigar smoke was also prominent.
Seemed all the other tables were celebrating birthdays that night; music box tune of “happy birthday” playing on never-ending loop.
In summary: not wowed.
