Firstly, it is important to state that I am in a state of both irony and agony. Agony because I am suffering from a headache which (suspiciously) came into being about 1hour after eating at this establishment. Irony because I ought to have first looked up this place (on openrice) before electing to eat here. (In my defense, though, I did want to try something new. )Ordered the lunch entree of Kimchi Chicken Pizza. I ordered an extra side of salad (for an extra $10). This is a rather interesting

Firstly, it is important to state that I am in a state of both irony and agony. Agony because I am suffering from a headache which (suspiciously) came into being about 1hour after eating at this establishment. Irony because I ought to have first looked up this place (on openrice) before electing to eat here. (In my defense, though, I did want to try something new. )

Ordered the lunch entree of Kimchi Chicken Pizza. I ordered an extra side of salad (for an extra $10). This is a rather interesting fusion restaurant; and the ambiance and food offerings closely resemble what I have experienced in Japan (dining in a similar fusion vein). I have nothing to complain about with regards to service. The server was prompt and courteous in the execution of her duties.

The food was another matter.

The soup was not particularly thick. No big deal there. However, the bits of congealed protein shards ('scum') within made for a poor presentation and suspect quality. The garlic bread was richly garlicy; but neither hot nor warm. It would have been substantially better if either --as temperature really helps to bring the garlic taste 'to life'.

The lemon tea was all right, but I thought that the plastic tumbler used made the presentation cheaper than expected (these are suitable in more 'combative' food environments like dai pai dong or chan ting; but not an upper level restaurant in a major shopping mall). The salad was fairily well appointed, with a sweet vinaigrette dressing. Not overpowering, but complimenting the salad. However, the best parts of the salad are shown here. There were a few discoloured bits as I reached the bottom. So, disappointing QC as far as the salad went.

Then the entree arrived. I was immediately struck by the lumps of chicken placed atop it. That is why a side view is also provided. Rising like mountains atop the pizza, they really ruined the landscape. It would have been much better to have the chicken sliced and evenly distributed about the top. These lumps are unappetizing to look at as well as having a bland taste (the cheese was more flavourful than the meat). The crust of the pizza was actually made with rice. And I was actually rather impressed with the taste and texture. In fact, I might even go so far as to suggest it is better here than in Japan! However, that is pretty well where the compliments stop. The kimchi was all right - not particularly nuclear, and lacking the complexity of flavour that I have had in some Korean households. In combination with the cheeze, shaved fish, and chicken, the taste was curious at first, but quickly became confusing and tiring. It is almost as if the richness of some of the ingredients (cheese, kimchi, shaved fish), were engaged in skirmishes with each other. In life, as in food, a certain degree of harmony is needed. And that is not what this dish delivered (or, was able to).
