Its not any news that every Alcoholic in town has been catching on and following the German Oktoberfest - there are even events to be running into November in Hong Kong, which I will also attend soon, despite this having ended officially in Germany weeks ago already! "KROMBACHER BEER":
Known as the No.1 Beer in Germany, this was advertised to be an Exclusive and limited Offer at McSorley's Ale House in Hong Kong. I certainly haven't noticed this anywhere before although I'm not too familar with World Beers in general to know! Although my Glass in the photo says Pils for Pilsener, I distinctly remembered ordering the Weizen, the Wheat beer version.
It was slightly Lemony 'sour' despite the strong Wheaty and Barley sugary taste, also quite cloudy. The Hop aroma is sub-dued with only small traces of citrusy aroma compared to say my last Duvel Golden Ale, this might present itself better as a Keg Draught beer? Not sure!
"GERMAN PRETZEL with Sweet Seeded Mustard and Butter":
This is one of the best Pretzels I've eaten recently! Made in house rather than out-sourced, this had a strong Wheat taste and was the PERFECT complement to the above German Wheat Beer! It really made my day.
The Pretzel was sprinkled with thick grains of salt and worked wonders with the sweetish fruity mustard sauce and butter as a combo - it was also more of the softer yet chewy 'Bretzeln' Version, with a texture like a chewy New York Bagel, rather than the hard crispy type and is way above the Auntie Anne's commercialised version! I got the feeling that many people in Hong Kong, just like me , somehow prefer the softer and chewier bread-like Grissini version rather than the equally authentic but somehow crunchier Grissini's - so this I could recommend to them highly!
