Was here for dinner long time ago- remember having fired marshmallows for dessert.
Given a semi private area. Very dark. Tasked with ordering the wine; probably cos I was the only one with working eyesight.
With help from sommelier, picked a magnum bottle of Argentinian (obviously) wine; not too young nor tannic.
Here’s what we had.
Bread rolls with butter with onions and mixed vegetables
Deep fried calamari with lemon aioli mayonnaise.
Baked mussels topped with red and yellow bell peppers, breadcrumb crust and garlic butter
Highlight of the nite: we each got to pick our own knife. Tried to guess who was gonna pick which but failed miserably. Went for the pirate knife.
Grass-fed Argentinian General Pico Black Angus steak traditionally grilled using the 'asado‘ method, ie indirectly on a simple wood-burning iron grill.
Meat had a smoky flavour and mineral taste; well complemented by the Malbec onion jam, crispy garlic and chives. Texture-wise, disappointingly chewy. Someone mentioned that chef probably overcooked. A lot of leftovers. Agreed to take home to make fried rice for lunch the next day.
DietGoddess did not feel like eating beef, so got a plate of chicken for her. Not bad.
Sautéed green beans with rocket leaves and almond flakes. Tasted surprisingly good.
Shoestring fries fried in duck fat, with garlic and parsley.
Dessert: vanilla ice cream with hazelnut, topped with whiskey.
In summary: ok. Bill came up to $1,050 each.
