I occasionally got the shrimp laksa + chicken wings takeaway set as afternoon tea on weekends for its good value of money. The government had rolled out the $1 levy charged on plastic bags provided by merchandisers on 31 December 2022 for packing goods that are already pre-packed. I understand that some restaurants had been charging the levy on packages of takeaway food before the policy was introduced. However, Chatterbox Express did not charge any extra for its takeaway food before the policy was officially in force on 31 December 2022.
Today I was charged $2 for a paper bag. I would like to draw your attention to the below points:-
1. The bag provided by Chatterbox Express is made of paper instead of plastic.
2. The portion of laksa noodles today is much less than before.
3. Price of the afternoon tea laksa set was up from $58 to $64 (a more than 10% rise) from 2022 to 2023.
It is obvious that Chatterbox Express is taking advantage of such the gov’s policy and charging $2 extra on its takeaway food. I do not find it justifiable to charge on paper bags with deteriorated food portion. I would recommend the management to review such policy or explain to the diners how they would utilise the extra revenue derived for greening our society.
I am sure that customers are expecting a better dining experience with a increased dining cost.
