I was meeting my ex-colleague for dinner as it has been a long while since we last met up. He suggested to have dinner at Sai Ying Pun as there are alot of cafes around that area. He brought me to chess cafe for dinner as he have positive experience previously. Chess cafe was located at Second Street, around 5 minute walk from MTR. They do have dinner set and the price was reasonably value for money, ranging from $72 to $128 for dinner set A. Set can choose from rice, spaghetti, main courses and udon or ramen. Dinner set comes with soup of the day and drink.
Soup of the day was cream soup and borscht soup. Cream soup was creamy and thick in texture. Borscht soup was tasty and clear, slightly spicy. It was quite special as it came with macaroni instead of garlic bread. Maraconi was chewy, not overly soft.
Soft crab - It was fried till very crispy, and yet the meat inside was still soft and hot. Mayonnaise was provided at the side to let us dip on it.
Grilled New Zealand rib eye - We requested for medium and the portion was very generous, given the price. It was tender and soft, with some redness on the meat. Curry sauce was provided for us to dip, which was quite interesting. Pasta was chewy and smooth, not too tough.
Roasted spring chicken with honey and grapefruit sauce - It came with vegetables and potato wedges at the side. Wedges was fried till crispy and soft, served hot. Spring chicken was roasted till soft and meaty, smooth as well. Honey and grapefruit sauce helped to enhance the flavour, having a sweeter taste.
Marble soda - This drink was from Japan, and was easily available in Japanese restaurants. It was sparkling sweet and gassy, with strong grapefruit taste.
Honey lemon and grapefruit tea - The drink was served hot, sweet and refreshing. It helps to cleanse some of the oils in the body.
Dragon fruit - After we have finished our meal, the staff even served us a plate of complimentary fruits. Dragonfruit was sweet and abit crunchy, juicy as well.
