A little while ago, boyfriend and I went to 潮福蒸气石锅 in Shau Kei Wan and found it to be an interesting experience. As his mother was in town, we decided to have a dinner here for the night before Chinese New Year. It was seafood, something appropriate for celebrating Chinese New Year and it was steamed, something that would appeal to health conscience members of the older generation. As they lived on the Kowloon side, we found they had a branch in San Po Kong. As they lived on the Kowloon side, we found they had a branch in San Po Kong. This was very close and convenient to where they live. The entire restaurant was busy as I assume most came for Chinese New Year dinner gatherings.
The restaurant is like your typical Chinese restaurant except for one special thing. Each table had a bamboo hat in the center. This is where the action comes into play. The "hat" is actually what you use to cover a specially designed steamer that will steam all sorts of food at a carefully calculated timer that is installed in each table.
A good dinner to await the new year. I liked the new addition of the sets as they seemed like a better value and good for people like me who can't decide what to order. There was a whole lot more steam than the Shau Kei Wan branch, making it feel like a sauna and half the time we couldn't see what was going on. I think it was only at our end of the restaurant as I bumped into a coworker and her family on our way out. She said they didn't have any over steaming problems. Otherwise, nice dinner for a gathering.
