It seems Hong Kongers love hot pot. So much so that even fast food chains offer this option. Now, Ca-Tu-Ya has joined in with their shabu shabu sets! Famous for their cheap and affordable pork cutlet sets in a fast food setting, they now have three shabu shabu options. The menu is in English and Chinese with a photo of what is included. You can choose rice or udon. I chose udon. The udon was hot so I could just eat it like that without eve dipping in into the soup. But I did it anyways.
The pot included Chinese lettuce, two tofu puffs, enoki mushrooms, two cubes of tofu, several strips of pork wrapped in a circle and a raw egg yolk on top. The soup was on the bottom and I had to move everything to the bottom to cook it. The soup was pretty good and sweet in the taste. The hot pot ingredients were fresh and fairly good quality. The pork was a bit too fat for my liking but then I'm paying under $100 so why complain?
The hot pot was better than I expected. No wonder it was popular that evening when I was there. Nearly everyone ordered one. Would be back to try again.
