I was missing this Shanghai cute restaurant quite some time, feeling like tonight is the time. Restaurant wasn't big, managed to get a seat before the crowds. Despite seatings were quite packed, all I focus was their variety menu. They served dim sum, shanghai stir fry dishes, stir fry noodles/rice cakes, noodles and cold dishes. Restaurant wasn't big, managed to get a seat before the crowds. Despite seatings were quite packed, all I focus was their variety menu. They served dim sum, shanghai stir fry dishes, stir fry noodles/rice cakes, noodles and cold dishes. Literally a commercial restaurant options of food.
We ordered their Stew minced meat balls in brown sauce, Scallion pancakes, Veggies dumplings with dan dan noodle and Vermicelli with spicy minced pork.
Food didn't take long. First came was the scallion pancakes. We didn't go straight in as you could feel the heat by it just sitting on the table. Veggie dumplings with dan dan noodle came next. Staff friendly recommended us to stir before consumption as peanut butter sauce was at the bottom. It was steamy hot. Dumplings were homemade with loaded veggies stuffed. Crunchy, earthy and freshness. It all came from just one dumpling. Wrapper wasn't the thin type but not too thick. Noodle was soft and al dante. Noodle was coated well with the sauce. Soup was spicy, savoury and nutty. Not too thick and not too oily. Everything was balanced just right. Good job.
Scallion pancakes was flakey and flavourful. You could taste an intense scallion flavour while the crunchiness remains. Pastry wasn't too doughy, coating the scallions just right. Crispy and delicious. The only flaw was the scallion wasn't fully coated the whole pancake, the folding part of the pancakes had missing scallion. No worries, it's only a minor mistake, the flavour killed it.
I believe the stew minced meat balls in brown sauce was quite a famous dish here. Almost every table ordered that. There were two enormous meat balls serving with some vegetables, mushrooms and bamboo shoots. Meat balls was soft and juicy. It had a strong pork flavour and very meaty. Personally I found the pork taste was a bit too strong for me while my friend loved it. Vegetables were soft and coated with the sauce well. Not bad.
Vermicelli with spicy minced pork was one of the stars of tonight. It wasn't saucey nor oily. Vermicelli was very delicious. It was savoury with a hint of spiciness. They gave a generous amount of of minced. It was just a perfect dish and the portion size was pretty big.
Being a red bean lover, even my stomach was stuffed, I still ordered their red bean paste crepe. It was absolutely amazing! Golden crispy pastry stuffed with thick red bean paste. You could literally see the oozing red bean paste, it wasn't a thin paste but a thick one! Corners usually thick and tough but this pastry corner was crunchy and buttery that it made you fell in love to fight for all corners. It was a dessert that never enough!
Staff were friendly and helpful! Friendly explaining their dishes and efficiently making orders. Always aware if customers running out of water and helped refilling.
It was a remarkable dining experience that I will definitely come back and highly recommend. I still have so many more to try on.
