Mushroom soup- This indeed was fantastic. the colour was nie, not too creamy but more mushroom colour which makes you feel more healthier instead of eating a soup full of cream. The soup was rich in mushroom but not too thick. If too thick it would fill you up quickly. I liked the texture, just right. Not too watery either. As it is a starter the bowl of soup is not too big, so won't fill you up for teh main. The soup comes with one piece of bread whichw as either rye bread or wheat bread. teh bread was lovely which makes me think SimplyLife's bakery is worth a try. the bread was crispy outside and soft inside. Don't get mixed up with hard and crispy though. When you bite into the crust it should have the crispy crackling sound, and it is hard to bite in. But hard bread do not have that crispy sound,a nd tough to bite in.
Chicken and mushroom Linguine with creamy tomato sauce- The Linguine was not as thick as I thought. i actually thought it was spaghetti until i had a closer look it was linguine. It was alot thinner and I don't like that texture. reminds me of chinese lai mein. I would prefer it to be thicker and flatter the sauce was not as creamy as it had stated. The pasta was dry and not creamy. itw as however rich in tomato sauce which just reminds me of spaghetti bolognese especially with the minced chicken. i would have expected the chicken as a big piece instead of minced. it seemed too much like spaghetti Bolognese. However there was generous amount of mushroom which i like. There were only a few piece of parmesan on the pasta. overall i did not like the pasta. ie xpected more from then since the mushroom soup was so good. Atmosphere: The restaurant is inside the plaza with seatings inside the restaurant itself or outside in the open in the plaza. as i came here quite early for lunch, I asked the people who was preparing the outside seatings, could I be seated outside. I would think there are more privacy and cosier inside. But it was quite nice sitting outside in the opening as the plaza isnt too busy. there are many seats outside with about 13-15 tables. mainly 2 seater table and 4 seater table.
Service: service was average. I cannot say it was poor as majority of restaurants gives worst service at lunch time. They were polite but was missing some smiles and patience. Obviously because they were very buy at lunch hour. people was queuing up, alot of orders, serving food etc. But i must compliment their fast service and they all seem to know what they are doing. you won't fidn anyone looking lost or not doing their work. each time I raised my hand for attention, they would come immediately and answer my questions or take down my orders,.
Conclusion: It is my first time to simplyLife, and would I return? I would if i have a chance. Their food was better than i expected and the price was more affordable than I have thought.. If you come at Lunch time, you can only choose from their sets. range from brown rice, to pasta to burgers. they even had an English breakfast which i wanted to try. 2 course was only 88dollars which is a bargain. Above average service and the food was a generous portion. truly western food, and not those look western but gives you chinese style western food. It even comes with a tea or a soft drink. A good deal for lunch. but as there are offices around, I would recommend to come early to get seats as they do get real busy. I had no problem sitting on the outside as you won't be neglected like some restaurants. It is obviously there are waitresses and waiters specially assigned to give service to the outside seating area.
The food was yummy especially the soup. My companion said the beef burger was juicy and moist. With melted cheese on top and crispy bacon
The bun wasn't just any supermarket sesame buns, but big fluffy glazed buns. with tomatoes and grilled onion on the side. The meat patty was real big and came with lots of chips on the side.
Ketchup and mustard was served on the side. although my pasta was a bit disappointing, i would still come back for other good food. Next time I would try their bakery and cakes, as the bread that came with teh soup was delicious and fresh. Definately a good place for lunch!
PS Their apple oolong tea was surprisinly tasty and refreshing. came in a big glass too, which freshened and cooled me down in the hot weather! Love it.
