Lof10, one of those hipster style coffee shops that are found in Sheung Wan decided to branch out and open up in Causeway Bay. But this time, instead of a small hidden coffee shop, it's now located inside Tower 533, a new massive building with a few restaurants but mostly offices. As I had never tried the Sheung Wan branch (can't help it ... way too many other coffee options when I'm in the area that distract me from this place), I decided to try the Causeway Bay branch as it was nearer to where I live. Arriving at lunch, it was pretty quiet. I was the only one there.
I was presented with the lunch menu. Lunch includes a coffee or tea. Menu is in English and Chinese.
As I did want actual food, I ordered a spaghetti carbonara ($68). When it arrived, it looked horrible. Wet and drenched in cream. There was a poached egg on top. The egg was perfectly poached. However, the pasta was nothing short of dreadful. Instead of the nice taste of parmesan and egg that is the essence of a carbonara, what I got was a mouthful of whipped cream. There was a lack of any sort of parmesan. This was a poorly made carbonara. Or at least made by someone who doesn't know what a carbonara really is. It's not just whipping cream and throwing it on top of pasta. This is quite possibly the worst carbonara I've ever had in Hong Kong.
The lunch set came with a coffee or tea. As the Sheung Wan branch was a coffee shop, I was interested in their coffee. I ordered a latte. My usual coffee for trying out a new place. The coffee? Poorly made. Latte art was weak but then I consider it unimportant if it's good coffee. Unfortunately, it wasn't. Foam was grainy and not smooth. There was far too much milk to coffee ratio, making the entire thing taste weak and milky. Thoroughly disappointed with the coffee. Is the Sheung Wan branch like this?
Disappointing coffee. Poorly made carbonara. The only redeeming factor is the service was nice. Otherwise, I really don't think I'd return again.
