The first time I went to 明发茶室, it was located near the wet market area. It was dingy with no air conditioning. But then then it moved to a nicer shop in Cheung Sha Wan and now it moved again! Back to Sham Shui Po. The restaurant is much nicer now. A lot cleaner and lots of air conditioning. But the food is the same. Simple dumplings (you only get two choices of filling), tofu fa and Shanghai style rice. The menu is on the wall. Just like before. There is English and Chinese with no 10% service ch

As they only had two filling choices: chives and cabbage, we chose a mix.
Boyfriend had them fried as he likes them fried ($38). For fried, you only get eight dumplings. But they are fried well. Crispy all over and not oily at all. The filling is still juicy and plump.
I like them in soup ($36). For soup you get 10 dumplings. Look how big they are! You also get a piece of lettuce. What a deal!
The chives is always my favorite. The skin is not too thin but not too thick as well. There were a lot of chives along with some waterchestnut to give it some crunch.
The other one is cabbage and it's mixed with mushroom. The cabbage is still crunchy and not soggy like some places.
One of my favorite places for dumplings and still just as good despite the change of location. It's a family run restaurant and they are really nice. A bit too much MSG is my only complaint but otherwise, a great dumpling place.
