Shek Kip Mei is a small residential corner close to prosperous districts but being able to retain its lower paced tranquility and fresher air. This is not a coincidence as it is just beside one of the lowest population density neighborhood of Kowloon Tong, where the rich gather and live. I am so delighted to have discovered this open space Chinese dessert refreshment stall within merely one minute of commute from my home. Surrounded by all those clean and young high rise governmental housing of residence painted with candy blue and pink, I enjoy going for a sweet supper beside this tranquil side street every week.

Sesame glutinous rice balls:
This is a typical Chinese dessert with sesame (or others such as peanut) stuffing within its chewy yet bouncy glutinous rice pocket. The balls are always immensed in sweet ginger soup when served. It is a metaphor of family reunion, perfect in our language as the rice balls are 'round' in shape. That's why you can see Chinese tables are usually round but not square or rectangle.
This stall serves cheap and much bigger balls with much more generous stuffing inside than other restaurants. The stuffing is dense and coarse, not like others that are usually watery like. The sweet ginger soup is perfect for me, as it has enough spicy ginger taste and not very sweet. Great for enhancing blood circulation. Every time after drinking the soup I feel comfortably warm. MY ADDICTION!
It is open space, so I particularly enjoy sitting there and marvel at the candy blue residential buildings which seems to be on the verge of engulfing this Tiny Me.
The desserts there are relatively cheaper and bigger, the choices are simple but all very enjoyable. I like the herbal jelly mix there too.
