Its location was not an attractive one- Teakha was located at the inner-corner of a small path which was a block upper from the main road. If you take a taxi, you may probably miss this tiny cafe. However if you walk along Tai Ping Shan Road, you won't- because there is an aromatic smell of ginger/herbal/something good that would arouse your curiousity, directing you to its origin. Despite its secretive location, this cafe, both the indoor and the outdoor siting areas, was packed with people- This was the picture when I came here on a hot, sunny sunday afternoon. Hence I made another visit on a weekday. When I arrived at about 2:30pm on a rainy day, all tables were occupied. Luckily a customer was about to leave, freeing a small round table.
Environment/ Service
Menu is on the wall. Make your purchase at the cashier, pay, and find your own seat. The waitress would serve your order at your table. As mentioned by other bloggers, this cafe was small and the tables were packed. Nonetheless it was a nice place to chill if you could find a table and chat with a friend because you would not be pressued to surrender the table to other customers. Beverage
Hojicha Au lait $42 As a tea layman, I had no idea how it's like when I made my order. This japanese tea was served in a classy Chinese-like blue-floral-patterned cup with a wooden plate. Fragments of tea leaf were floating. The tea had a special roasting taste. Unlike HK style milk tea, the milk added did not make its texture very rich. This tea was very smooth and silky. It was mildly sweetened. Nice!
Food
Greentea cheesecake $40 It seemed that there wasn't any pastry menu. Nonetheless you could choose the pastry from the display.
The greentea cheesecake attracted quite some positive attention in various social media; hence I had a high expectation. As you could see from the photo, the cake was moist. It was dense but not hard. It had a lovely cheesy taste. However I could not taste the greentea until after I had swollowed the cake. The greentea was mild- this was not something I expected. I expected an overwhelming greentea taste. But it was not bad. The crust was fine.
Summary/ next?
No doubt I will return (on a weekday of course). Although I am not a tea-lover, I am very curious about its other beverages such as roselle & fresh mint tea and masala chai. The cafe was filled with mild gingery aroma, and hence I would try its ginger-product next time!
