Thank you to those of you from CK Ctr(52/f). I took your recommendation and had dinner at JJ's(my 1st time after its re-opening a few months ago!). Well, I can now compare the 2 hottest Thai places in town: JJ's vs TRURecently, both JJ's and TRU in LKF are the 2 most talked-about in-places in food magazines and newspapers mainly because of their fine cuisine, unique style and unconventional decor!! After all, they are both relatively new in town and people tend to like trying new and fashionable
Recently, both JJ's and TRU in LKF are the 2 most talked-about in-places in food magazines and newspapers mainly because of their fine cuisine, unique style and unconventional decor!! After all, they are both relatively new in town and people tend to like trying new and fashionable places.
I also had dinners at TRU a few times previously, but I prefer JJ's over TRU. Let me tell you why???
First of all, both JJ's and TRU are pricy and you should not be surprised. Well, one is a 5* hotel restaurant and the other is located in LKF.
Secondly, other than the cuisine they serve in the menu, you won't find anything Thai in either place. The head chef at TRU is even a young white man from Australia.
The new JJ's is tastefully decorated. The ambience is elegant and yet relaxing. They also have private booths - excellent if you have a hot date and want some privacy at dinner. I am quite impressed by the overall service - very friendly, attentive and sensitive to customers' needs. For the ladies out there, you will love this place more because the waiters here are stylish, energetic and handsome looking. Compared with the other F&B outlets at Grand Hyatt, I'd say I enjoyed the service at JJ's the most. I must give some credit to Darry(Manager) and Louis(Asst Mgr).
Food wise, I ordered :
1) spicy grilled beef salad with tomatoes & fresh onion slices - very tender and juicy
2a) Tom Yam Goong - quite spicy but the soup base was made of real seafood with a touch of lemongrass + lime leaf flavor. Prawns were big and tasted very fresh
2b) Tom Kha Gar - my friend really liked it because the chicken breast was tender and the soup only carried a touch of coconut flavor
3) roasted duck with water chestnuts, cherry tomatoes & Thai baby eggplant in red curry - very tasty but too much duck skins and too little duck meat. Some of you may like lots of skin but I don't. Next time I'll order only duck breast meat and no skin!!
4) Gai Yang - grilled chicken marinated in coriander paste & lemongrass - very tender and tasty but the portion is too small!!
5) fried rice with chicken - good because it was not oily
After dinner, my friend and I went to the music room upstairs for a drink and we found a 5-men live band singing & playing. I was a little surprised to find so many customers there even after mid-night. A pretty good place if you enjoy R&B music.
