It was American Thanksgiving and as boyfriend is from there, we took his mother out for dinner at Empire City Roasted Duck. Located in K11 Art Mall, they had a promotion: 25% off for a la carte on Monday to Thursday. Pretty good deal! And I had a craving for Peking Duck.Menu is in English and Chinese. We ordered half a duck ($298) as there was only 3 of us. It was served with very thin pancakes, red daikon, cucumbers, cantaloupe and leeks. The cantaloupe was a bit odd but it worked. There was also some hoisin sauce and sugar for extra seasoning.
The duck skin was neatly shaved so there was not one bit of fat adhering to it. It was super crispy as well. Meat was provided and sliced separately.
We added Xiao Long Bao ($48). These were really fantastic. The skin was so thin and the meat was juicy. Lots of soup was there as well. One of the best xiao long bao I've had in the city.
After the duck, we could choose one of 10 ways to eat the rest of it. We chose the Minced Duck Meat with Lettuce Wrap ($88) as that is always a favorite. The mince was a bit on the salty side and there were pine nuts found as well.
You can choose lettuce or crispy seasame pocket to wrap the meat in. We had never tried the crispy sesame pocket so chose that.
Basically you stuff as much of the duck filling as possible. This was even better than the lettuce wraps! It was crunchy and went well with the filling.
We finished with a Mandarin Fish ($328). We had no idea it was this big! Usually when we order this, it's a fairly small fish. But here it was huge! More than we expected. It was well done. The fish was crispy yet the meat was moist. The sauce was not too sour. Pine nuts and canned peaches were used.
The food was ok. The duck didn't look as impressive when it was served but it tasted quite fine. The standout was the Mandarin fish.
