It's rare boyfriend wants to eat Thai in a mall. But here he was staring at the sign that said "Mountain of Rib Bone". As every where else had huge lines of people waiting to dine in, we decided to give this place a try. Located inside Langham Place next to the cinema, it's actually quite large inside. Menu is in English and Chinese. Though it says Thai in the restaurant name, it serves a mix of Thai and Vietnames as it's supposed to be the cuisine found on the Meokang River. We ordered two smoot
We ordered two smoothies. Boyfriend had the Pina Colada Smoothie ($42, on the left) and I had the Watermelon and Mint Smoothie ($42, on the right). I'm so glad I ordered the watermelon and mint because it helped soothe the spiciness of the ribs! It was a perfect combination of refreshing and sweet. Boyfriend's pina colada was ok. Not too sweet but not a lot of coconut taste either. So, he didn't like it too much.
Wok Tossed Tiger Prawns in Taramind Sauce with Toasted Coconut ($128). This came with two big crispy prawn crackers! A really good start to the meal. The prawn was firm and fresh. I loved the sauce as it was the perfect balance of sweet and savory with a bit of heat but not too much.
Lemongrass Caramelized Beef Bun Chay ($78). The nuac cham sauce was served on the side and was just the right amount. It was a good balance of sweet and spicy. Thoug h the bun chay wasn't exactly like the ones we had in Vietnam but I guess this is a restaurant that is a mix of the two places? So, I guess forgivable. Portion was generous and the ingredients were fresh and crispy. The beef was grilled nicely with a lot of sauce.
Lang Saeb or Mountain of Rib Bone (small size $98). But this is what boyfriend came for. It came in both small and large size. But as there was only two of us, we ordered a small. The staff did warn us it was very spicy. And yes, it was! It was a sour and spicy taste but the heat just lingers an stays with you. It wasn't burning but wow ... it just stays on your tongue for a long long time. Good thing I had my drink! But the meat was delicious. Fell off the bone in tenderness. And there was lots and lots of small green chillis, spring onions and garlic. It was impressive to look at and tasted just as mind blowing.
Food portion was generous and tasted delicious. Seating was especially spacious and location is very convenient. Would probably return again if friends wanted a Thai/Vietnamese experience.
