This restaurant is owned by the Leonidas chocolate shop owner who gives the profits to the charity for Deaf Children. That is one good reason to eat at the restaurant, the other good reason is those amazing hot chocolates they serve, I didn't try one when we came to lunch a few months back and so was determined to return for dinner. The dinner menu is in sets and you can choose from a list of starters, main courses and desserts. The amuse bouche was some minced chicken on a spoon. I didn't like it as I thought it was quite tasteless but everyone else said it was quite nice
There were 6 of us and so we tried a few different dishes from each course:
The scallops were chosen by Dad and my husband, both gave it high marks My foie gras were were cooked well and very differnet. The fried piece firm but not over done, the mousse on the spoon smooth and creamy, the terrine fragrant and rich. Cold seafood soup was not appreciated. I think the Chinese palate is not accustomed to soups being cold. This one has fennel in it which gives it a strong grass flavour making it even more of an acquired taste My husband liked his main course, carrot and beef pie. He said it reminded him of school food in England. I on the other hand, find it is like baby food, no texture and nothing to chew. My elder daughter had the seafood pasta but both the clams on the dish had gone bad. We told the waiter who took it away to prepare another dish and the sous chef came out to apologise. I thought they were sincere and it is something that can happen to anyone. The second time they cooked her the same dish, the clams were fresh and the pasta wonderful as it was freshly made pasta and not dried pasta. Someone told me the restaurant is famous for their steaks. So I had steak with salad which I thought was delicious. The steak had a good soft texture and was packed with fresh beef flavour My younger daughter ordered the seabass in pea sauce which was surprise as she normally doesn't like fish much. She thought the fish was outstanding though and couldn't stop saying how delicious it was There were a choice of about 6 desserts. We tried 4 of them
My Tarte Tartin with ice cream. I was hoping for a crisp tart with paper thin apple on top. This was a slightly thicker pastry with slices of cut apples. Still nice enough although I have had better The Crepe was French style and got good comments from my husband, the crepe lover But the star would have to be the chocolate fondant, chocolate souffle and mango sorbert. Ah, I remember now, it's a chocolate restaurant, so should always go for the chocolate items. However, i was too full to have such a rich dessert. It got raving reviews. Mum in her old age likes ice cream a lot and she finished her whole ice cream parfait. I take that to mean it got full marks And finally, the grand finale, the hot chocolate. The restaurants serves hot chocolate as an alternative to coffee or tea although it wasn't stated in the menu. They were the most beautifully presented hot chocolates I have had. You could taste the quality of the chocolate So that concluded a delicious meal in very nice surroundings. I would definitely recommend La Parole for many reasons
