The only Korean restaurant in Shatin area

Believe it or not - this is now the ONLY Korean restaurant in the Shatin area, after the closing down of Nam San Gok at the NT plaza a while ago. Tried the food here once on a weekday night, and the food was not bad at all, being quite authentic in taste. Both the stone pot with beef and rice (very hot and tasty, especially with the added chilli sauce) and the noodles with black bean sauce (tangy noodles, a bit on the sweet side but still acceptable) were quite nice. Believe it or not - this is now the ONLY Korean restaurant in the Shatin area, after the closing down of Nam San Gok at the NT plaza a while ago. Tried the food here once on a weekday night, and the food was not bad at all, being quite authentic in taste. Both the stone pot with beef and rice (very hot and tasty, especially with the added chilli sauce) and the noodles with black bean sauce (tangy noodles, a bit on the sweet side but still acceptable) were quite nice. The spicy stir-fried nian gao (rice cakes) was even better, the "cakes" being chewy and served in a red-hot fiery broth - guaranteed to satisfy every one of your spicy taste buds and enough to make you drenched in sweat afterwards !
To help cool down our hot palates, we also tried a special cold drink with cinnamon which was nice and refreshing. My only negative comment for the food concerned the kimchi, which strangely was quite non-appealing, lacking both in taste and appearance, likely just a "generic" item bought from supermarkets rather than freshly produced by the restaurant.
Overall food quality compared favourably to other more "established" (and expensive) Korean restaurants that I have tried locally; price was of course a cut cheaper. Maybe that is the reason for its popularity ? Be prepared for some waiting and "really intimate" dining experience, as the place is rather small and the tables are actually abutting one another. Also, the place is closed for Sunday pms. Recommended if you crave for Korean and happen to be in Shatin; would probably be back once in a while ourselves to savour the comfort food
