I've been on something of a cooked-breakfast mission in recent weeks, (maybe I'm making up for three years without any), and my quest led me to Silly Boo in Tai Hang. First things first, I dislike the name, it's not cute, it hideous...maybe there is some romantic back-story about the owner starting the business in honour of his/her partner who s/he affectionately calls Silly Boo...who knows. Anyway, I won't let a small detail like that stand between me and a reasonably priced cooked breakfast. T

The look and feel of the place is nice, cosy even. It's a corner store nestled or lurking under the Tsing Fung Street  flyover and the interior feels quite homely, (it would be a great place to watch a rainy morning pass you by).

I ordered the vegetarian breakfast upon arrival and a latte. At $55 the veggie breakfast seems very reasonably priced compared to other places but that's before you add on the $35 for a coffee. This puts the full breakfast experience at around $90 which means it's pretty much mid-price range for such things. The service was mix and match, the waiter who took my order seemed a little pre-occupied (I think she was maybe trying to go through paperwork with a new member of staff), but the waiter who served me my food was quietly polite.

My food arrived a couple of minutes before the coffee which was odd but actually they were both served promptly so no complaints there. The vegetarian breakfast was comprised of six ingredients and was served looking like an edible flower with different petals around a centre of egg.

The winners were:
the beans - you can't really go wrong with beans
the mushrooms - great, nice fried, a little chewy, almost a meat substitute when cooked this way, this kind is infinitely better than portobello mushrooms

The losers were:
the bread - this kind of food needs a harder bread, toast, not small, soft slices drizzled with olive oil
the egg - a little too loose and watery, no obvious seasoning and proportionally a little too much in comparison

And the rest:
the fried potatoes - these tasted good but were a little soggy, and if they were replaced with hash browns the breakfast would be elevated from ok to good
the salad - I still can't remember salad being a regular part of an English breakfast but I actually quite like it. When the leaves are crisp and the dressing is good it can cut through the grease, the salad at Silly Boo was ok but just ok

I'm not sure if I would get this breakfast again, but I would definitely pop in for a coffee if I was in the area.
